My Mission
Learning how to apply my background of Applied Behavior Analysis to my son was a challenge that I did not anticipate. After much training and research, I conquered behavioral episodes around food refusal and effectively generalized those skills to other children and families.
Collin was diagnosed with a medical condition when he was almost three years old. After offering solid food to him for two years, and not progressing past oatmeal and applesauce, we learned that he had Eosinophilic Esophagitis. He had the sensation of choking and aspirated on thin liquids due to swelling in his throat.
Boston Children's Hospital managed his condition with medication and frequent endoscopies to ensure the swelling was controlled. It was.
THEN WHY WON'T HE EAT ?
Thanks to something called "conditioning", Collin learned to be afraid to eat. I stumbled across an "Eating Disorders" seminar for Behavior Analysts where I met a doctor from Hershey Penn State who runs a feeding clinic. I bought his book. I studied his behavioral techniques. I applied to the program. A year later, we were approved for the program! We lived, breathed, and "ATE" this program for one month! Life began to change for the better.
I experienced behavioral difficulties in my own life, rather than just in my career working with children with Autism. I became more determined to help others solve behavioral issues around life skills, such as eating, toilet training, and sleep-related difficulties.
